SHIFTING GROUND

Drawn in two parts Shifting Ground moves through changing landscapes. On a voyage through the urban into the wilds. Suddenly arriving deep in the dark forest, the viewer is drawn into a landslide, where the shifting landscape accelerates towards an inevitable end, leaving with swirls of dust and the remnants of two large sheets of paper. The bearers of witness and memory.
As much about the changing landscapes of the world we live in, physically, politically, environmentally, the film reflects on human centric and neoliberal destructive forces and the hubris therein, questioning: where this is taking us? In tandem with the bigger picture the film also draws out the hyper-local internal landscape where my personal and emotional life was shifting in inevitable ways.
Shifting ground was drawn on two large sheets of paper sized 6ft x 6ft. The scale and the physicality of the process induced a ‘falling into’ the story - drawing an equilibrium between the marks and the mark maker - gently shifting the ground we inhabited together.
